Hi!
I'm Deb Airey. Chief Commercial Officer by day. Full time troublemaker for the status quo by every other hour of the day.
I lead commercial strategy for The Safe Monitoring Group, a global group of safety and monitoring businesses. That's the job title. Here's the rest of me.
I'm a wife to a man who thinks parkrun is a personality trait. I get it, because I run one too. I run the face book group called "parkrun swimmers" and I'm mad about health and fitness, travelling, and anything that gets me outdoors and moving.
I mentor and coach women in STEM. I speak on stages about supporting women in safety and STEM industries, because representation doesn't happen by accident. Someone has to keep kicking the door open.
That's where the book comes in. I wrote Kicking the Door Down for every woman in STEM who has been made to feel like she doesn't belong. It's for the ones fighting old stereotypes, fighting to be heard, fighting to be taken seriously. You are not alone. And you can absolutely kick the ass out of those stereotypes.
Here's the part most people don't put in a bio. I'm a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and trauma. I've seen the worst of what people can do, and I carry the marks of it. I don't hide that anymore. I call them my stripes, not my scars, because they're proof I got through it. I share my story because if it helps even one person avoid what I endured, or feel less alone in what they're carrying, then it was worth telling.
I've pretty much seen it all. I'm still here, still standing, and still kicking doors down.
Steel toe caps. Not slippers.
